Health Coaching Jobs Newsletter #6

August 19, 2024

Hi Coaches!

I was concerned about getting today’s newsletter out on time due to some health issues I've been dealing with over the past couple of weeks. Thankfully, things are finally getting resolved (I hope). That said, this edition is a bit lighter than usual. Look forward to more community and data insights in the next newsletter.

Next week, I’ll be releasing our first ‘Health Coaching Industry Deep Dive’ issue (working title, I’m taking suggestions), focused on providing more in-depth information about career and professional development topics in health and wellness coaching. One of my main goals is to address the gaps in our collective knowledge about the state of the health coaching industry and what it means to be and grow as a health coach—gaps that have emerged as the profession rapidly expands. While many of our questions still lack definitive answers I’m committed to the exploration, and including you in the process.

Reply to this email to let me know what topics you’d like me to cover in the future!

I’m grateful you’re here,

Leslie

Reminders

  • Just wanted to remind you that what you do as a health coach brings so much value. I truly believe health coaches will transform the health of our society and I appreciate you.

Industry Chatter

  1. If you’re interested in the political and legal advocacy of the health coaching profession, check out the Council of Holistic Health Educators. They’re working to protect and promote holistic health professionals by lobbying against restrictive legislation and advocating for laws that support and grow the profession, reflecting modern health and wellness practices. Health Coach Radio recently went further in depth on the importance of advocacy and regulation challenges currently faced by the profession with Darrell Rogers.

  2. Omada Health recently released an in-depth article sharing it’s struggles with balancing AI-driven insights and human-led coaching and how it has adapted to meet the needs of its coaches and member base over the past 9 years. This adds to the conversation about coach autonomy, particularly in digital health roles, and is well worth the read if you’d like greater insight into how many digital health companies are thinking about the intersection of AI and coaching.

  3. U.S. News & World Report recently released it’s Best Health Services Companies to Work For. Of the 12, two of them employ coaches to some degree, however they tend to be on-site or hybrid roles. Keep an eye on Elevance Health and Humana for roles in your area.

  4. Margaret Moore, founder and CEO of Wellcoaches and co-founder of the NBHWC, recently co-authored a publication released by the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine, “Health & Wellness Coaching Services: Making the Case for Reimbursement,” that provides more insight and context into where the HWC industry currently stands on the insurance reimbursement front. Don’t get super excited. It’s helpful context, but forward movement is slow (as things tend to be with changes in healthcare in general).
